What is the Emerald Ash Borer?

The Emerald Ash Borer beetle is a wood boring insect that attacks and feeds on ash trees resulting, if left untreated, in the thinning and eventual death of the ash tree. City Forestry says the Emerald Ash Borer will kill all uninjected Ash within 10 years.

Advantage to our Trunk Injections for Fighting the Emerald Ash Borer

Trunk injections are the most effective method for controlling the Emerald Ash Borer. Treehuggers exclusively uses EcoJet trunk injection equipment to inject BioForest’s TreeAzin product directly inside ash trees. With over 15 years of experience, our trunk injection systems, and technicians are proven to give the best results when protecting ash trees from the Borer.

Treehuggers has been helping Manitoba communities plan for, and respond to, the Emerald Ash Borer invasion. Our Tree Care Specialists have almost 15 years of experience in detecting, preventing, and treating trees for diseases and insects, such as EAB.

The key is treating the Ash trees before they have become infested or in the very earliest stages of infestation. You also need to know that treating affected trees will need to occur every 2 years once the insects have reached your locale.

Treehuggers can treat ash trees in the spring, once the tree begins to bud. We treat E.A.B. by applying TreeAzin, an insecticide developed by Bioforest, drilling small holes in the trunk of the tree, and injecting the insecticide. TreeAzin is certified organic by the O.M.R.I.

Emerald Ash Borer Identification

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a metallic-green insect native to Asia. The adult beetle is approximately 1/2 inch long and 1/8 inch wide. In 2002, the beetle was detected for the first time in North America in the vicinity of Detroit, Michigan, and later in Windsor, Ontario. Data from tree ring analysis indicated that the beetle had probably been present in those areas since the early 1990s.

The adult EAB emerges from infested ash trees via D-shaped holes. EAB larvae leave s-shaped galleries as they tunnel through the layer immediately under the bark, damaging the tree’s ability to transport nutrients and water. Symptoms of EAB include a thinning of the tree’s crown, suckers that shoot up from the base of the tree, and woodpecker activity.
